IE-Engine Web Forms

Online Insurance Broker as an Application Service Provider

IE-Engine Canada has developed the first and only web-based application that streamlines the marketing of corporate group insurance, saving time and money for all industry stakeholders. This e-Business application is a web-based B2B service that allows group insurance transaction participants to increase productivity and efficiency, reduce costs and seize a competitive advantage.

Insurance Engine is a fully web enabled framework of forms that allows buyers to prepare questionnaires and deliver them to insurance customers. The customers (insurance agencies and brokers) may fill in the forms and deliver responses back to the provider at their convenience. The entire process is governed by a secure transaction based subsystem.

The product uses Java Server Pages (JSP) in conjunction with Java Beans for server side dynamic web page content and database connectivity. The servlet engine hosting the product is the BEA WebLogic server. This product leverages several rich features of the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) specification to deliver a tightly integrated e-Business platform. The use of WebLogic also enables several Enterprise class features for the product, like clustering and load balancing. The application is powered by Oracle 8i as the Database Management System.

BAU Solutions Canada Inc. was responsible for the design, development, and implementation of the WebForms component. This subsystem is a series of HTML forms that allow the insurance provider to build questionnaires in a modular fashion, by creating questions, groups of questions and available responses. A means to arrange the questions into sections for scoring the responses is also available. WebForms is then able to record and score responses to the forms from the customer’s answers. Afterward, this information is used by other components of the Insurance Engine framework. Consequently, the WebForms subsystem is an application that seamlessly integrates into the full Insurance Engine product and provides core functionality required by various components.
