Strategic Business Information Portal
The Government of Argentina requested that Canada build a Strategic Business Information Portal (Strategis) for them as a web portal for economic development. As such, this native web application offers a single point of access to relevant, dynamic, timely and up-to-date information about products and services provided by local Argentinean companies. Basically, it enables local business and organizations to be successful in today’s New Economy.
The system provides strategic information to help its constituency succeed in a rapidly changing, knowledge based, technology driven, global business reality. By providing value-added interaction on top of robust data, and dramatically improving the accuracy and efficiency of the search and retrieval process, Strategis empowers end user organizations by facilitating the navigation through the overabundance of information available in the Internet. Strategis effectively alleviates information bottlenecks, transforming information into knowledge, and thus increasing the ability to compete in the new business environment.
Currently Strategis comprises the following three core modules:
Company Directory
This module serves as an initial point of presence on the Internet for domestic businesses. It provides a wide range of information on businesses, in a highly accessible, easy to use, common format. Business managers will use this directory to support their business planning, marketing, and partnership efforts. Customers and prospective buyers are able to find products and services provided by local companies.
Document Publishing and Search
This publishing facility is comprised of the tools required to author, edit, tag, and post relevant, up-to-date, business documents and information in a database, in a fully searchable on-line environment. Subject areas are unlimited and will grow over time, but might include: government support programs and services, foreign market analysis, new technologies and trends, trade rules associated with a particular country, and programs and opportunities for potential foreign investors.
Multiple Web Site Integration
This module enables businesses, organizations, and individuals to search and seamlessly retrieve information from multiple, worldwide Internet sites. To facilitate rapid site growth, it also supports the automatic import and publishing of information from other sources on the Internet.
BAU was pivotal in the launch of this site, bringing its expertise to the design, development and rollout of the web application. Using the proven might of Oracle8i to drive the data input and retrieval processes and open source technology such as Java and the Apache Web Server to provide a flexible and easy to use browsing experience, BAU created a robust, secure and scalable solution for the Argentinean Government.
